Vinland
Note: some details have been omitted due to upcoming novels
In this timeline, the Vikings were also the first Europeans to step foot on the new world. War was fought with the natives, devastating to both sides. After many years, a compromise was reached and Vinland became a permanent settlement. Because of this, the cultures started to merge, at first in small ways. The epidemics happen hundreds of years before they happened in our timeline. Due to Europe's resources and ideologies at the time, none were able to take advantage of it save the Vinlanders themselves. Overall, by the time our story starts, The native tribes are numerous and doing well. Currently, most of the eastern coast where Canada would have been is considered to be its own nation known as Vinland and the people known as Vinlanders.
Vinland gained relative independence due to several wars in Scandinavia that ultimately created Skaldan (scowl-den) leaving the settlers to their own devices. After the wars in the home country, Vinland offered placating gestures such as exclusive trade deals with the new Skaldan government who could not afford the hassle of handling problems in such a faraway place.
Currently, if one was to visit Vinland, then they would witness a very mixed culture of viking heritage and Algonquin speaking natives making the area very unique culturally.
Haudenosaunee Wars
Ancient enemies of the northern algonquin speaking tribes, the ten tribes of the Haudenosaunee aimed to assimilate their neighbors through war and capture, and a few by trade. This resulted in them gaining ground all the way to the coast of, what would have been, New York City. However, the northern algonquin speaking peoples banded together with the Vinlanders to gain ground in the northern great lakes and threw a spear into the heart of the ten nations.
