Aio - A Kymbrian greeting


Ambax - Personal guard


Arbiter - A high judge

Asel - Gaelland word for a person with no autonomy.

Atyr/Atyress - Southwestern Kymbrian lord/lady.

Aulos - Long double pipe instrument.

 

Aurgani - A Mithran servoi born to serve in the military. A slave soldier.

Bloodlined  - A gilla born into servitude. All of their descendants will also be gilla.

Brigada  - Around 300 soldiers.

Brosthun - Born without the presence of a father.

Bunk - Not real, made up.

Cac - Old Roman word for feces that has come back into fashion with the lower classes.

Carnyx - Ancient war horn with a long skinny neck and bulbous head fashioned after a boar.

Catcher - A person whose profession is to catch runaway gilla.

Cened  - The Kymbrian senate.

Citarra - A string instrument with eastern origins that consists of 5 to 7 strings and usually played with a planch.

Cumber - Of little mind, useless.

Cumberwhirl - Stronger version of cumber.

Dalarwain - The right hand to a leader.

De - Deity/deities.

Decanus - The head of a large group of peacekeepers.

 

Denge -  A Skaldan word for a band of warriors/soldiers of around 50 members.

Dep, or deppid - Stupid/idiotic.

Drib - A little bit. Small amount.

Druidi - Descendants of the druids.

 

Dux - An old Germani word of Roman origin meaning Lord, or landlord.

Fluet - Single pipe instrument.

Gilla - A person with no autonomy. A slave.

Geissi - A prohibition, or demand placed on someone, usually given by a magistrate, arbiter, or druidi priest.

Gobb - A sneaky liar. An insincere suck-up.

Golden sickle - Reference to the druidi cutting mistletoe with uncorrupted metal. Also used as a metaphor for viewing an everyday object with reverence.

High-patrician - Extremely rich aristocrat with a hierarchy unto themselves. Most have ancient blood-lines.

 

Ja - A Rheatian word from a southern Skaldane influence meaning yes/affirmative.

Jib - Flattery. A lot of talk that means nothing.

Joy house - A place to drink, gamble, and dance.

Legrix - Military rank equivalent to a lieutenant. 

Lick of the tongue - Cure, cured.

 

Lin-segni - A terrible pleasure gilla tradition.(book 2)

Low-patrician - Usually new money with little family history. Low and high tend to occupy opposite spheres of social influence.

Magistrate - Local judge.

 

Martial gilla - A bloodlined gilla whose single purpose is to protect their owner.

Nodens - Celtic deity associated with healing, the sea, hunting, and dogs.

On Stutter - Electric machinery that has malfunctioned.

Overrun the cup - Too much.

Peacekeeper - Uniformed people who patrol the streets for criminality.

Peacer  - Slang term for peacekeeper.

Pig-haves  - Derogatory term for the rich.

 

Pleasure gilla - A bloodlined gilla trained in the carnal arts and leisure activities.

Pleasure palace - A place where pleasure gilla live and work.

Rib tickler - A joke.

 

Servoi - A Mithran word for someone with no autonomy.

Rutta - A short string instrument played with a bow.

Seven doors - Doors of the afterlife.

 

Smerd - A Rheatian curse word for shit/fuck.

Steel screw - Workhouse.

Teyrn - King/Queen.

The Stints - Poorest area of Londinium. 

 

Thrall - Skaldan/Norse word for a person with no autonomy. 
 

Thrall-born - Someone born as a thrall. 

Torix - Military leader equivalent to a captain.

Trup - Harlot. Derogatory term towards women.

Veneti - Zarmatian word meaning a person with no autonomy.

Vigiles - Firefighters.

Wain - Leader.
