Overview
The Haudenosaunee, instead of a confederacy of 5 nations, are ten nations in this timeline. their area stretches all the way from the great lakes to the sea. The Kymbrians were familiar with the coast of the new world for many generations. Trade was good and eventually a few non-permanent encampments were allowed. Curious druidi priests were invited to live with the tribes. Noticing that diseases from back home were ravaging a few villages, these druidi introduced inoculation. This act gained the trust of the Haudenosaunee council and the Kymbrians were allowed to set up a permanent settlement on the coast. They called this settlement and its surrounding area, Brigantia, after their chief Goddess while calling the area outside of it, Hanuah- a Kymbrian translation of the word the Haudenosaunee used for earth.
More settlements came, and after a hundred years, the Kymbrians had twenty-five settlements on the coast and along important rivers. This did not come about due to conquest, but instead to further trade. The hope for both peoples were eventual assimilation. Instead a melding of the two cultures began and this is where the friction started.
Despite some similarities in religion and outlook, they each believed their culture to be greater than the other. Staunch Haudenosaunee started hating anything Kymbrian, or anyone who even slightly adopted the outsiders ways and vice versa. Some Haudenosaunee campaigned for war and capture, making the Kymbrian's fortify themselves and become distrusting of their native neighbors.
Haudenosaunee living freely within Brigantia were forced out, angering the ten nations even further. The southern settlements started making trade deals with southern Siouan and Algonquin speaking peoples. This turmoil led the Vinlanders to send a delegation to Brigantia.
The Algonquin war.
The Algonquin speaking peoples of the north were ancient enemies to the Haudenosaunee. It is unknown who started this particular war, but the Algonquin served a devastating blow, taking the lands above lake Onterio while casting a spear into the heart of the Haudenosaunee council. The Ten Nations looked like they would fold. It might have, if there was not a delegation in Kymbri. They argued successfully with the cened and Kymbri made the lands of Brigantia aid the Nations. With the might of Kymbri at their back, the Haudenosaunee protected their region.
Nowadays the hostilities have not cooled. Though the Brigantians have relaxed and begun repairing relations, the Haudenosaunee are surrounded on three sides by enemies.
